Campulung la Tisa was one of the five crown cities of Maramureș, a title lost in the 19th century. It stretches on the banks of the Tisza, so in the 15th century, in the port of the locality, the floats loaded with salt left for destinations. In the 17th century the Russians settled in the locality.
