Map of Zalău: City Hall

The City Hall Zalău was built between 1836 and 1838 on the muddy land of the old market. With al these the arrangement of the centre began and in 1841 it continued with the new buildings of the guilds. The facade of the building was made by sculptor from Cluj Klősz József.
On one side and the other of the entrance were placed wrought iron lanterns like in the big hall where the lanterns form the walls and the candelabrum are made of wrought iron. The last one weights 1450kg and has 100 lights. Railings of wrought iron protect the balcony from the entrance, the interior stairs and the interior yard hall, the entrance door being decorated with wrought iron as well.
The imposing building with three levels has at the basis a trapezoidal plan which marks an interior yard arranged as green space. On the two longest walls of the interior space extends a wooden balcony hold by iron console. The interior is decorated with a lot of exigency: the floor presents floral decorations and the ceiling of the festival hall and the halls have stuccos. In the Festival hall decorated with mirrors took place different manifestations, receptions and balls. Over the years the building was the Prefecture, the Court of justice, Prosecution and City hall's headquarters.
