At the beginning of the 18th century, at the intersection of Calea Victoriei and Lipscani Street, there was the Câmpineanu Inn, bought by the French brothers Petrache (translator) and Dr. Ioan Serafim (physician). They both settled in Bucharest. In 1843 architect Xavier Villacrosse was appointed chief architect of Bucharest, who married one of Petrache's daughters, the heir to the inn.
The inn became Villacrosse was demolished during the construction of the passage. The central part of the inherited land was bought by the Philharmonic Society, which however failed to build the palace of the Philharmonic, and moved it further to a Hungarian contractor who built the "Stadt Pest" hotel and did not give up the building, to build the passage. As a result, the architect Felix Xenopol, the designer of the passage, resorted to the solution of the construction of two wings around the hotel.
The branch from Lipscani was called the Villacrosse passage, and the other Macca after Macca Mihalache, the builder of the builder. Thus the passage built between 1890-1891 has three entrances, two on Calea Victoriei, and one on Eugeniu Carada Street. At the entrance of Eugen Carada Street there is a beautiful cologne portal and a wrought iron door. The passage is covered with yellow glass, the buildings inside have stucco, and the rotonda has a stained glass roof. The passage is full of shops and restaurants.
