Attested in 1357, Baba had several landlords from the Bánffy, Szerdahelyi, Móricz, Rhédey Ádám and Wesselényi families. The Babe's inhabitants were renowned. The first furnaces were built in the 14th century, and in the second half of the 20th century there were 50 lime kilns.
