The town of Păuleni has been attested since 1334. It is the village where Pálfalvi Nagy György was born, the chosen leader of the Szeklers who revolted against János Zsigmond in 1562. It is a mountain town located 800m above sea level. It has a church built in the 18th century. In order to differ from Păuleni Ciuc, in 1913 the locality added the prefix "Székely".
