Map of Sângeorgiu de Pădure: Reformed church

Sângeorgiu de Pădure had since 1333 a parish church dedicated to Saint George. After several reconstructions, the current church still retains the Gothic windows, the main gate under the tower and the niche of the monstrance in the wall, although the latter is covered with plaster.
Traces of frescoes were discovered in the sanctuary. During the plague of 1614 crypt under the church was built. The church also preserves the bones of Claudia Rhédey, the ancestor of the British royal family commemorated by black marble plaques was laid by her niece, Mary Viktoria.
The parishioners and church reform became Unitarians and reformed in 1640. The tower was built during the reform. The church was supported by families Rhédey and Wesselényi, coats of arms can be seen on the coffered ceiling built in 1732. Wesselényi family emblem appears separately.
Pulpit decorated with floral crown built in 1730 and built in 1760 by Sipos Dávid have made donations Baron Wesselényi family. The original organ of the church was donated by Count Rédey Mihály, and the current one was made in 1927, in the Károly Einschauk workshop in Brașov.
