Documents preserved from 1271 mention this area with the name Villa Herbord. The name Terra Blassi indicates Herbordus Roman Catholic priest's son, Blasius, the founder of the city. In the castle of Apafy the agreement was signed that Transylvania is ruled by the Hapsburgs in 1687 but this came with some benefits and Mihaly Apafy was recognized as sovereign. This assembly on the Freedom field is commemorated with the Glory Memorial. Between 1741-1749 the Blessed Trinity Cathedral was builtand the town arboretum was established between 1881-1883.
