The Cărbunari locality, certified in 1424, was the property of the Drágffy family in the seventeenth century of the Herberstein family, and in the seventeenth century the Báthori, Bethlen and Hartman families. In the eighteenth century even the Teleki family appeared on the list of owners. Supposedly silver deposits have attracted the famed families here. Later the town was famous for its mineral waters.
