Coltău is documented since 1405. Since 1549 it belongs to Chioarul Fortress, since 1553 it is owned by the Drágffy family and since 1662 by the Teleki family. Their castle is now the Petőfi Museum. Being a friend of Teleki Sándor, the newly-married poet Petőfi brought his wife here in 1847 for honeymoons. The museum, the horn, the stone table, and even the Vajda spring link to Petőfi. According to the last wish, Teleki was buried under the horn in 1892, but at the request of the family in 1936 he was moved to the cemetery.
