About the first church in Porumbești there are no documents, but it is known that in the sixteenth century it was reformed. Catholicism was revived thanks to Jesuit and Franciscan missionaries arriving in the locality. In 1736 sub-prefect Bogárdy István built a wooden chapel.
In 1747 the faithful recovered the ruined church, and in 1767 Perényi Imre the protector of the place rebuilt the church, preserving the sanctuary around 1440, the sacristy and part of the ship. The tower was built in 1833 by Mrs. Bánffy Bogárdi Emerencia.
The altar painting was painted in 1879 by Hofrichter János painter from Budapest. The bells were cast in 1867, 1959 and 1967. The big bell is the oldest.
