The Orthodox Church of Sassar was built in 1822, and according to the cathedral rebuilt in 1904.
It was erected by Greek Catholics, a religion banned during Communists, and the church became Orthodox. The renovation works from 1988-1993 removed the traces of the old decor. It was plastered both inside and out, adding a porch and the two side towers. The interior was decorated with a new painting by the painter S. Spiridon Gatu. At that time the balcony was also built.
