According to the documents, the first Catholic church of Tarna Mare was built by the Ukrainian Swabians, established here between 1855-1864. The wooden church was finished in 1859. The German ethnics from Slovakia arrived here in the early twentieth century.
Because they were Catholic, the small wooden church has become inconclusive. The new church finished in 1904 is still visible today. Because of the emigration of the population, Catholic believers have fallen so much that the Tarna Mare parish became a subsidiary of the Halmeu parish.
