Căpleni was a locality surrounded by Ecsed swamp which offered protection during the Tartars and Turkish incursions. The epidemics resulted after the Rákóczi war decimated the population. The locality was named after the landlord Kaplony, the second son of leader Kund.
The locality history is bound by the church history. Built in 1080 for hundreds of years it is the place where are buried The Karolys members. Here we can find count Károlyi Sándor the one who in 1700 settled down 127 Swabian families, captain during the Rákóczi's liberation war and the one who surrended the weapons in 1711 in Moftinu Mare.
