Map of Coşeiu: Reformed church

The church from Coșeiu was made by the bishop Jakcsi Dénes from Oradea, born in the locality, for Franciscan monks. The construction date is unknown but it is assumed that at the bishop's death, in 1432, it was finished, because the family's crypt is under the church.
In 1564 the church becomes reformed and begins its accommodation to the new religion: the surrounding buildings are knocked down, the entrance carved arches are built. During the Guruslău's fights (1602) the church's walls and roof were wrecked.
The church remained uncovered for more than 100 years. The legend says that in the middle a walnut grow of which the lord table was made. The marble plate indicates the construction date: 1823. The church's reparations lasted 2 years, between 1796 and 1798.
The deteriorated walls were repaired, the gothic ceiling was changed with a cassetted one. Some arcs or half of arcs remained, they can be seen today, and the sanctuary was separated from the church. The high tower of 28 m was kept in its initial shape. The gothic entrance from the west wall is very beautiful. The used organ of Diosd locality was bought and brought here in 1869. The belfry from the front of the church was built in 1891.
