The present church of Bănișor locality was built by the Greco-Catholics, in 1894-1896 on an old church's place demolished in 1897. Since 1762 up until 1948 people from Bănișor for a period of 186 years were Greco-Catholics. The Greco-catholic church had had a ceiling painted in blue with stars and the faces of four evangelists. The nave's walls and the iconostasis were decorated with icons. In the church's tower were three bells.
In 1948 the passing to orthodoxism took place. For 50 years the church's interior didn't suffer changes but in 1995 the interior renovation began. The old paintings were replaced with the actual Byzantine one made by painter Negruț from Oradea. In 1960 buttresses were built for walls support because they were threatened by landslides.
