Horoatu Crasnei locality was born through the unification of two villages: Horoat and Petenia. In 1353 Horoat was the property of The Báthoris but on the landlords' list appeared later on The Bánffys, The Keczelis, The Szeles and The Telekis. In 1470 it had only a wooden church but later on in the XV century the reformed church was built, the oldest building of the locality. The oldest building from Petenia is the top part of the orthodox wooden church.
