Vârșolț Lake is situated in Crasna basin, between Crasna and Vârșolț locality, was made in 1976-1979. The dam has a height of 17 m and a length of 2160 m having a volume of 50,2 millions m3 of water. The lake's surface is of 652 ha.
The accumulation was created by the floods mitigation and protection against floodings. A temporary accumulation was projected but it functions as a permanent one being the drinking water source for Zalău and Șimleu Silvaniei towns.
