Map of Tusa: Reservation Springs of Barcau

Barcău river, the most important tributary of the Crișul Repede River flows under Ponor peak from the Metaliferi Mountains up until the meeting point of Bihor County, Cluj County and Sălaj County. The biggest spring is the big Carstic Spring that feed Toplita stream.
The accumulated waters on the Ponor karst plateau burst to the surface here and they separate in much branches and they give birth to waterfalls afterwhich they disappear again among the rocks for bursting even stronger with a big flow and foming a waterfall with over 10 m height.
Especially in rainy weather it is very impressive to see how water flows among the limestone hills covered by moss. In summer the luxuriant vegetation creates a fairytale landscape around the waterfall.
From here the wather continues its course among steep walls, forming small waterfalls and forming more little waterfalls and is passing over more concrete stepst and is reaching in the law land area where is calming down after a way of 364 km and a level difference of 553 m is reaching to Hungaria where is flowing in Crișul Repede. The stream area was declared natural reservation, being known as The Tusa-Barcău Reservation. In the abundent river's source which is gathering its waters from the carstic plateau are depositingl arge amounts of travertine.
