The settlement of Brad famous for the brown carbon and aureus-minerals exploration was mentioned in documents for the firs time in 1445. It was one of the main centers of Revolution of 1848-1849 from Transylvania. After 100 years of Austro-Hungarian domination in 1949 it was liberated by the revolutionary armies leaded by Avram Iancu. It became town in 1941 and shire-town in 1995. The most attractive objective for tourists is the Mineral collection of Brad known under the name of "Gold Museum". Founded for over 100 years it collected over 2000 exhibits from all over the wold.
The native gold collection comes from Metaliferi Mountain's minerals and it is one of the most important collections of the world. The museum represents some of the archeological objects discovered in the zone of Brad-Criscior what prove the existence of humans on these territories 5000 years sooner and of the gold extraction activity of 2000 years. There are exhibited old utilities and objects used at the quartz extraction and processing. Gold in mineral appears under diverse forms: fine dispersed, free or together with other minerals and rare chemical combinations of gold with tellurium. The exposed minerals have various shapes, some of them seem to be plants, and others animals but there are also shapes like gun some is even similar to the Romanian map. This collection of minerals has more than 800 pieces coming from all over the world; one glass case shows those ones that were brought to the surface from Romanian mines.
