Busteni, which is a recreation centre, lies 850 metres high at the feet of Caraiman mountain, on the banks of Prahova river. The picturesque sorroundings attracts thousands of tourist each year, due to the fact that during summer the place is an ideal starting point for mountaineers climbing the surrounding maountains. Due to the elevators Babele and Sfinx are only 13 minutes away, and after a relaxing walk one can watch the wonderful Urlatoarea waterfall. Winter lasts from December to April. During this period there are 11 ski slopes waiting for tourists, extreme skiers can also find slopes here.
In the memory of fallen soldiers queen Maria ordered the construction of a 25 m high cross. The process lasted for three years. The cross stands now on one of the peaks (22913) of Caraiman. The materials were carried in backsacks by young people and donkeys. Another sight is the house of the witer Cesar Petrescu, built in 1918, prince Gheorge Cantacuzino's castle from 1911 and the monachial church, the foundation-stone of which was laid by Carol I and queen Elisabeth.
