A 100 years old machine, tailoring thick woolen blanket is still working at Lisa. The Lisa brook assured a continuous source of income for the villagers, who built water-mills and other hydraulic machines. They grinded cereals, pressed oils, cut the wood or tailored thick woolen blanket. Such equipment can be seen at La Valtori. This is an eterprise founded in 1850, inherited from father to son. At present, the fifth generation is working on the machines. They built a new workshop in 2000, but the tailoring of the thick woolen blanket follows the traditions. The typical animal of the area is the long-wooled curkan sheep, from which this material is made. This woolen blanket must not be confused with other types of blankets.
The tailoring of such woolen blankets is a very long procedure: it is weaved, washed, watered and combed lengthwise, so as the beauty of the curkana wool is emphasized and it will not fall out! The sight of the soft, foamy blanket, hypnotizes you and you realize why the ladies grow begonias…because both the blankets and the begonias are wonderful!
