Map of Timişoara: Orthodox Church of Elisabetin

The Orthodox Church from the Elisabetin district was built in 1784 in the place of an older wooden church dating from 1727. At the beginning it has no tower, only on the roof above the altar was a cross with a ball fixed up. The tower was added in 1836.
100 years later, in 1894 began the masonry of the present church with the patron saint Assumption of the Virgin, following the plans of architect Ștefan Toth. The tower is 24,41m long and 7,70m wide. It is built in Baroque style. The mural painting was realized by prof. Iulian Toader from Arad, while the sculpture and woodwork by master Traian Novac. The church was renovated in 1989.
