Buia village boasts two European scholars. Mathematician Bolyai Farkas (1775-1856), known for his contributions to geometry. He was the father of the renowned mathematician Bolyai János (1802-1860). In 2003 the County Council, the Local Council and the UDMR raised a statue in honor of Bolyai János, and in 2008, at the initiative of Mr. Torpai Imre (descendant of the Bolyai family), the statue of Farkas Bolyai was unveiled. Both are located in the center of the village, close to the Catholic Church and Bolyai Memorial House, which also hosts the museum dedicated to the two mathematicians.
