Băbeni locality is documentary certified since 1405 under the name Babafalva and in 1424 under the name of Baba or Aranymező. The second name refers to the gold washers who used to work on the banks of Someș. Among the owners we can find The Drágs, The Jakcs, The Báthorys, The Kőváris, The Apafis and The Telegdis, but once it was a princely domain.
