Between the years of 1972-76 the new church construction raised much curiosity, as for its non-conformist form and the year of its construction, too, being the sole roman catholic church built during communism.
Hans Fackelman, the constructor had a plan of an oval church originally, with a cross sign on the top, being the sole place of prayer for hungarians, cheks, romanians and serbians in the area.
Gabriel Popa realized the way of cross, which was much debated after, because he has painted some current figures too, instead of illustrating as originally planned some biblical scenes. Thus close to Pilat there appears Lenin too, raising violence in people against Jesus. John Lennin symbolizes the happiness felt for the resurrection of Christ.
Between1849-53 the Hungarian crown was hidden in Orsova, and where it was found in the graveyard there has been a church constructed since then, the church of the crown, or mainly a chapel, which disappeared with the constructions of Portile de Fier.
