The first written records of Coltesti date back to 1624. The village became the property of the Thoroczkay family sometime around the XIII century. The castle was also built in the XIII century by Transilvanian subvoivode Thoroczkay Illés II. The history of the village is entwined with that of the renowned family to which the villagers refer affectionatelly. The churches were built by the Thoroczkai family. Each branch of the family (baron, count and noble) had its own mansion. The one that is still standing is the nobel Thoroczkay (later: Rudnyánszky) one-storied mansion. An obelisk-like building and a few walls remind us of what used to be a beautiful garden. The village also prides itself on giving birth to the Renaissance man, Brassai Sámuel. The house is still standing.
