Though the settlement was registered only in 1912, it played an important role in history in 1600, when Mihai Viteazu chose this place to rest with his army on their way to Translivania for the unification of the three principalities. This is the highest settlement in the country built on the mountains and in Predeal saddle (1032m) in between Postavarul and Piatra Mare. Its long- often more than 100 days- winters with abundant precipitation make the place a real tourist paradise. The first ski contest took place in 1903. Today there are around 8 ski runs on the surrounding slopes (aprox. 10km), three of these, Clăbucet Plecare, Subteleferic and Clăbucet were internationaly recognised in the winter of 2002. Snow machines were installed on Clăbucet Sosire and Clăbucet Variantă ski runs. Lit up ski runs, a lot of housing facilities, ski schools, accessories renting, snowmobils and intimate clubs guarantee relaxation for those who face the challange of overcrowded roads and transportation means and choose to come to Predeal.
