Map of Timişoara: The hydroelectric power station
The hydro-electric station from the Bega, built according to the plans of architect Szekely Laszlo was finished in 1910. The building is made up of a supra-raised body, similar to a tower, a body on the left side of the Bega and a body that lies above the river. The tower has a row of arches supported by pillars, and its base there is a balcony. On the downstream façade there are some arch shaped windows.
Above the locks of the station there is a decorated wooden footbridge. The body from above the water hides the "motor" room, where Ganz turbines with 600 H.P. have been mounted.
The produced electric energy was used for tram service, public lighting and industrial aims. With this construction and the regularization of the river bed, the prevention of floods in Fabric was also solved. The Hydro-electric station still works today.
