Map of Zimbor: Zsombory castle

The Zsombory castle surrounded by a park is on a little hill from Zimbor locality's center. It was built by Zsombory Lajos and his wife Kozma Mária, in an old manor's place. At the beginning of 1900's the count lost the castle at cards, ending at finance minister Săulescu.
He didn't stay long at the castle, so his wife Maria known as "the lady" took care of the castle and garden. After nationalization the building was given to Minister of Health.
Sanatorium, dispensary and last time even the city hall functioned in the building. Curiously but nobody claimed the castle. So the building with 14 rooms and a park of almost 2 hectares was not inhabited, its state is deteriorating each day. The city hall sold the building. Its actual owners are Romanians from Austria and they want to get rid of it. Although built with care even in the smallest details, windows and doors brought from Austria, its fate was not a good one.
Zsombory castle from Zimbor was built in a park's centre of 2 hectares. A part was kept in its original state and became the city's park.
