Between 1738-1739 the town was decimated with plague, which caused the death of around 1000 people, rate that in those days meant the sixth of the town`s population. After the epidemic had stopped, the town`s community made this statue as a thank to God. The monument was realised In Vienna between 1739-1740 and it was transported to Timișoara on water, on the Danube, Tisa and the Bega channel. The component statues are grouped around a high column, in top of which the Sfânta Treime can be seen.
At the basis of the column stand the statues: Sfântul Ioan de Nepomuc, king David, Saint Barbara, the patron saint of the miners and the well-known figure of the plague monuments, Saint Rozalia, starting from the conviction that the persons bearing this name have been protected from the plague. On the pedestal, besides the sculptures in relief, representing the war, starvation and the plague, also appear the statues of some protecting legendary powers: Saint Rochus, Saint Sebastian and Saint Carol Boromeus.
