Map of Salonta: Truncated tower

Raising Salonta fortress began in 1620 by free soldiers and was completed in 1636 with the support of Prince Rákóczi.
The Watchtower, where weapons and gunpowder were stored, resisted until today, and is known as the Ciunt Tower. The fortress was destroyed during the Turks in 1658. In some people's opinion it was destroyed during the Turkish attack.
Others claim that the prince of Transylvania ordered her destruction or burning, so as not to reach the Turks. So in 1658 only this 3-storey tower was preserved, which in 1899 another storey was built.
The four-storey tower was a museum in memory of the poet city famous János Arany.
