The tower got its name from the tailors craft-union for taking care of it. Their sign could be seen on the top of the tower. On the last storey of the tower a line of loopholes were found which had been used for spilling hot water or oil on the neck of the enemies. In 1616 a part of the tower was annexed by the old mayoral board.
