Map of Sovata: Black Lake

Black Lake was born in a former surface saline, being remembered since 1715. Although it is the oldest lake in Sovata, it has been forgotten by the authorities, it is not a protected area, it is not part of the Natura 2000 project either. The nineteenth century was the focus of attention, only the richest were allowed to come here to treatments. In 1894, the main attraction of the locality was the Black Lake. Gray and black sludge at the bottom of the lake was the basis for treatments until the end of the 20th century. Sanepid has forbidden any lake-related activity. In 2012 the lake was fenced with new fence, water and sludge became good again, the lake was leased, a new treatment center and a swimming pool was built .... On the shore of the lake. Today, only the professionalism and conscientiousness of inspectors depends, that this "black diamond" does not disappear without trace.
The lake is not accessible, but until the leaves appear, it is visible from the road, located about 7m above. Then it is hidden by the surrounding vegetation.
