Map of Zalău: Reformed high school

The history of Medium Reformed School from Zalău is known since the beginning period of the reform, the education displaying here continuously since 1646, exception are the war years. The school was in the property of the reformed church from Zalău up until 1816.
In this year it ends up in the jurisdiction of Reformed Diocese from Transylvania. Because of the differences between the school management and the reformed church one, since 1830 the operating costs were footed by count Wesselényi Miklós. This was one of the reasons for which after his death the school received his name. During the absolutism period the school was financed by the citizens and since 1888 it received helps from the state.
Between 1892 and 1896 the poet Ady Endre was the pupil of Wesselényi College. The little tower with bell stands as a memory of the once school. In the old library preserved until today we can see works belonging to Platon, Homer, Aristotel, Descartes and other famous authors.
The name of the college, after the "Wesselényi" Reformed College, became "Ady Endre" high school, Real-humanist high school, Mathematics- physics highschool, Theoretic high school and now National College "Silvania".
