In 1781 when Austrian emperor Jozsef II. gave way to other nations to come toSibiu, many Hungarian nobles bought or built houses here. Widow Mrs. Gergely Bethlen built a house on the place of Sebastian Hahn's silversmiths building in 1786, in baroque style. This house was named Kariatidas house. The wrought-iron balcony banister is held by two giant caryatids which probably was made in Simon Hoffmayer's workshop.
