Map of Sibiu: The Müller House

The XVIIIth century was a the great discoveries period, a time when the 21st of the 90 elements had been discovered. A lot of arguing is surrounding its history. In the late XVIIIth century in Sibiu lived the Austrian, Poysdorf town, born Franz Josef Müller the discoverer of tellurium. In 1775 Müller was the head inspector of the Transylvanian mines and because of research, of the invitation of Baron Brukenthal, and with the proposal of the Viennese court he moved to Sibiu. Here he discovered the new element in 1782, but because of the low speed of postal delivery many different countries scientists claimed the discovery theirs. Later, eventually, the situation clarified and Müller had been credited for being the first to discover the blue-whitish mineral. Today we also know that tellurium can only be found in Transylvania, and it occurs combinated with siver and gold.
