Map of Baia Mare: The Saint Steven town
The tower of St. Stephen is the symbol of the city of Baia Mare. The tower higher than 40 m is the remnant of St. Stephen's Church. It was a church built in 1387 in Gothic style and had two ships.
Cele duă nave paralele lungi de 50 aveau acoperișuri separate. Turnul de 50 m a fost ridicat între 1445-146, având la bază dimensiunile 8,76x8,26 m. Are trei scări de piatră, care de la mijlocul turnului sunt de lemn. Cu toate ca avea paratrăsnet în secolul XIX. a fost incediat de un trăznet.
The first watch was mounted in 1628. It can be seen in the History Museum. The current watch is electronic. The tower housed two bells, the big one was cast in 1925 in Arad. On the southern wall is seen the bas-relief of Roland, the symbol of the right of judgment.
In the 19th century, two western blazons were mounted on the western wall. North can be reached in a ribbed vaulted room, which was arranged a lapidary, with many medieval stone carvings, and fragments of funerary monuments. According raven crest of History Museum including the Hunyadi helped church. The sanctuary was destroyed by fire in 1769 the tower reached the Act appearance in 1896, then received and cracteristic roof. On the east wall are visible traces of the south wall of the vessel and into the attic above. Tower gives a splendid panorama.
