The fortress church was built in gothic style by king Mátyás to the Ninorite friars between 1486 and 1516. As an effect of the neology the mockery was expelled in 1536 so the cloister and the church kept empty until 1581 when sovereign Báthori gave it to the Jesuits. Under the influence of the Unitarians the people of the city attacked it breaking everything what came their way. They crashed in a part of the arching as well where 14 persons died. The church got empty again. Finally in 1622 the ruined church was gotten by the reformed church what finished its rebuilding in 1646.
By then they have built up the renaissance pulpit as well. The dimensions of the church are fascinating. The length of the body is 34 m, its latitude 15 m and its wall height comes up to 19 m. Its fretted backed benches were made in the XVII century by clutters from Bistrita, the table is inlaid and the rococo organ is from 1765. From the ending if the 60's on it gives place to regular organ concerts. The regal tombs of the "Apafiak" are in the apse and on its walls there can be seen the armours of the Transylvanian noble families.
The copy of the George equestrian statue of Márton and György Kolozsvári was placed in front of the church. The original made to the order of Karoly IV and actually it can be seen in the fortress of Prague. The monastery where in time of János Apáczai Csere functioned theological and juridical education what gave coequal diplomas with the famous European academies was built up in 1651. Between others here studied Nicolae Pătrașcu as well son of Mihai Viteazul.
