In time of the quondam Austro-Hungary the Viennese theatre builder Felner & Helmer firm built up in 43 years 48 European theatres among others the theatre of Timisoara in 1875 and the theatre of Cluj in 1906. The ulterior with its three-storied circle it has a recipience of 900 spectator. The theatre is passing fair but the destiny of the ensemble turned as the wind of the history blown. The first permanent ensemble was Hungarian. It was founded in 1792 and it worked under the leading of János Kotsi Patkó. The first theatre was built in 1821 in the actual M.Kogâlniceanu Street. From here the ensemble moved to the new built theatre in 1906. Meanwhile in the actual Emil Isac Street Jenő Janovics builds up at his own charge the studio-theatre having its then name of "Ambulatory Acting-Group" … and came the I W.W. The Hungarian ensemble had to move as the theatre was received by the Romanian Clujan National Theatre that was founded on 1 December 1919 what's first director was the reputed Zaharia Stan. The Hungarian ensemble was adopted by the Ambulatory Theatre. In 1940 the Romanian ensemble had to evade to Timisoara and the Hungarian ensemble retook the theatre. In 1945 the theatre was gotten by the Romanian ensemble again and the Hungarian ensemble moved back to the Ambulatory Theatre that was renewed and enlarged in 1961 so the ensemble abided in the theatre having a capacity of 862 spectators. Actually functions operas in both building as well.
